FEATURED HALF BOTTLE OF PRIORAT

Alvaro Palacios, "Finca Dofi", 2019When the original "gang of five" made their way from Bordeaux back to Spain, they came armed with French knowledge and Spanish passion. Alvaro Palacios is now considered an elder statesman of Priorat after more than 30 vintages with the most successful wines of the region. Finca Dofi is no exception. Grapes are harvested from two single plots, mainly Garnacha, and then aged in large French foudre. Palacios' expression of the grape and the land are in line with the power, beauty, and finesse that makes Priorat a region to keep an eye on.137

FEATURED VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE

Veuve Fourny et Fils, "Monts de Vertus", Blanc de Blancs, 2014Champagne is passion. On one hand it is a beverage that seamlessly represents celebration for many, and on the other is one of the most meticulously handled wine products on Earth. At Veuve Fourny the care goes from vineyard to cellar, from hand harvest to minimal fining and filtering, and the result is a Champagne of the highest quality and finesse. The Fourny family is now in its fifth generation to tend the land at Vertus Premier Cru. Although they are brothers at the helm, they are first accomplices and look to their complementary strengths to move the winery forward227

FEATURED CHARDONNAY

Kistler, "Les Noisetiers", Sonoma Coast, 2020Kistler truly is the expert in American Chardonnay. They plant one clone of Chardonnay across fifteen vineyard sites and have been tending to them in this way since the mid 1980's. "Les Noisetiers" is a blend of three of the Sonoma single vineyard sites and emphasizes the area's Gold Ridge soils. The result is a luxurious and complex white wine possessing a minerality never before seen in a New World Chardonnay.191

FEATURED SANCERRE

Domaine Vacheron, 2020The Vacheron family name in Sancerre is viticultural royalty. Three generations ago the family took over their first vineyards. As their family grew so did the pedigree of their bottlings. From humble beginnings by then patriarchs Denis & Jean-Louis, the estate now boasts all biodynamic farming, hand harvests, and some of the finest vineyards in Sancerre. It is not a wine trying to reinvent Sancerre, but to be an elevated version of the classic style.131

White Burgundy

FEATURED MÂCON-VERZÉ

Domaine Leflavie, 2019Tucked away in the Mâconnais region of Southern Burgundy, this tiny commune has a population of less than 800 people, and only four country roads leading in and out. However the vineyards date back centuries, and the Leflaive family has been using their expertise to cultivate their five plots of Chardonnay here since 2003. The Mâcon-Verzé is a wine of great purity, both floral and mineral, expressing a lively energy, ready to be enjoyed earlier than some of its Burgundian counterparts.187

German Riesling

FEATURED GERMAN RIESLING

Joh. Jos. Prüm, "Graacher Himmelreich", Kabinett, 2020Joh. Jos. Prüm is a family-run winery that dates back to 1911. Currently in its fourth generation of winemakers, Dr. Manfred Prüm has been at the helm of the estate for the past 50 years. Graach is a village in the Mosel wine region of Germany. The vineyards of Graach are planted on a southwest-facing hillside that overlooks the Mosel River, providing ample exposure to the afternoon sun for enhanced ripening potential. Graacher Himmelreich (translates to "Kingdom of Heaven") is a single vineyard at the very top of the hillside with soils of weathered clay and blue slate. Finally, Kabinett indicates that the Riesling grapes were picked just a touch later than a dry wine, meaning that this wine has a honeyed sweetness balanced by zippy green apple and wet stones.138

FEATURED GREEK WHITE

Domaine Douloufakis, "Aspros Lagos", Crete, 2020Third generation winemaker, Nikos Douloufakis, takes immense pride in the steps his family has taken to create quality wine from native Cretan grapes. "Aspros Lagos" is no exception. Crafted from the Vidiano grape, this wine shows richness and texture while remaining crisp and focused. While this wine can be enjoyed young, its best kept secret is its ability to age gracefully. Crete is magic, and so is its Vidiano.118

Anthill Farms, "Campbell Ranch", Sonoma Coast, 2019This trio of ants — Webster Marquez, Anthony Filiberti and David Low — met in 2003 while working at Sonoma's Williams Selyem Winery. A year later they opened Anthill Farms with two unchanging goals: to make wines that express the growing site and the characteristics of the vintage above all else, and to make wines that, simply put, taste good. These goals require gentle handling from crushing to bottling, judicious use of oak, and, perhaps most importantly, leaving the wine alone as much as possible. Since 2004 they have grown from producing eight barrels of wine to working with eight distinct single-vineyard sites, earning them Food & Wine Magazine's "Most Promising New Winery" in 2009.121

(Grace Family, Bryant Family, Carte Blanche, Kenzo Estate, Arrow & Branch, Kerr Cellars, Paradigm, & Fiddlehead Cellars) The brainchild of her & her husband, DJ Warner, Vermillion is an offshoot of their label Keplinger Wines. The quality of wine is based on the quality of all its inputs: good vineyards, smart farming, & pure winemaking. They make this wine from the vineyards to the bottle, working closely with grape growers from awesome little vineyard sites in Napa Valley, Sonoma County, & the Sierra Foothills.98

FEATURED FLEURIE

Domaine de Fa, "Roche Guillon", 2019The confluence of high-end Burgundy & Beaujolais have not always aligned in the public's eye. However, when famed Rhône winemakers Antoine & Maxime Graillot saw the opprotunity in the granite hillsides of Fleurie, they jumped at the oppprotunity to make a high quality wine from Gamay. These famed hillsides are ideal for making a dense, yet crushable example of Beaujolais. In addition to making fresh and lively wines, they are making all the appropriate decisions to keeping their grapes organic, the vineyards biodynamic, and the winery sustiainable.87

Wines of Domaine de La Romanée-Conti

FEATURED PRODUCER

Domaine de la Romanée-ContiDomaine de la Romanée-Conti: No winery is more famous, or produces such legen...wait for it...dary wines in Burgundy than Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The domaine has been co-owned by 2 families, the de Villaine's & the Roch's/Leroy's, since 1942. Aubert de Villaine, a humble, charming & highly intelligent man who is acutely conscious of the history of the domaine & the responsibility he bears towards it, has been the manager & face of the domaine since 1991, when Lalou Bize-Leroy left to focus on her own domaine. Often abbreviated as DRC, the winery makes some of the most exclusive wines in the world. 98% of their vineyard holdings are in Grand Cru vineyards, including their 2 "monopoles", La Tâche & Romanée-Conti. DRC's wines, for those lucky enough to have tried them, are regarded as the pinnacle of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay

Current owner and winemaker, Stéphane, knew from the age of six that he wanted to follow in his winemaker father's footsteps. Stéphane completed his oenological studies in Beaune, working alongside some of the best winemakers in Burgundy. This time in his life was instrumental in forming his philosophy of winemaking and his laser-like focus on terroir. In 1997 he formally joined the family estate. Today, Stéphane farms 12 parcels for a total of 27 acres, crafting wines that have become a reference point for the appellation and are sought after by the greatest chefs and most serious wine lovers around the world.222

FEATURED CROZES-HERMITAGE

Domaine Breyton, 2019Crozes-Hermitage's variable reputation is due to the size of the appellation, not just massive but littered with a variation of soils, sites, & production methods. Adjacent to the hill of Hermitage, responsible for some of the world's finest Syrah, the wines of Crozes can range from competitive to their neighbor to the west all the way to just... forgettable. Enter Domaine Breyton by Jacques Breyton, a biodynamic estate dedicated to bottling some of the Rhône's most intriguing Syrah. The majority of their grapes are sourced from the domaine itself, with a small amount coming from the cooler Northern section of Crozes which adds a welcomed freshness. The combination of soils & sites lead to an extremely unique wine free from conforming in a traditional style, yet somehow dramatically classical to the appellation at large.99

THE HERMITAGES OF JEAN-LOUIS CHAVE

FEATURED PRODUCER

Jean-Louis ChaveIf there were a name that was synonymous with the hill of Hermitage, it would be that of Jean-Louis Chave. The family began making Hermitage in 1481, passing down wisdom through the generations to create some of the most perfectly balanced wines available. Traditionalists to the core, the key to the perfect balance of his wines is the remarkable blending skill. This creates wines of great nuance, harmony, depth, & aging potential.

Southern Rhône

FEATURED CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

Château de la Font du Loup, "Les Damoiselles", 2020Located at one of the highest points in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château Font du Loup, which translates to 'fountain of the wolves', is named after the natural springs in the area where the wolves would come to drink. Font du Loup has been in the Melia family since 1942 and is now run by the charming Anne-Charlotte Melia-Bachas and husband Laurent. Font du Loup has roughly 20 hectares (organically farmed – although not certified), including holdings in the La Crau vineyards, and is planted on mostly sandy soil with vines that reach 100 years old. It is located in one of the coolest appellation places with slow ripening of the grapes. The wines are made in an elegant, pure, pretty style and are as warm and inviting as the good Anne-Charlotte and Laurent.138

BARBARESCO

FEATURED BARBARESCO

Carlo Giacosa, "Montefico", 2016The Carlo Giacosa Winery farms 5 hectares of vineyards in Barbaresco and has been run by the Giacosa family for four generations. Donato Giacosa, Carlo's father, founded the winery and helped shape the very hills of Barbaresco. Carlo, together with his wife Carla, continued in the family tradition, further developing the winery, and cultivating his roots along with those of his vines. Now, it is Maria Grazia's turn, the latest Giacosa to run the firm. She works alongside Carlo, her dad, and Luca, her son. The Giacosa family history is inextricably a wine-making one. The care that they lavish on their wines is what exalts the perfumes and the flavours in the glass.133

BAROLO

FEATURED BAROLO

Roccheviberti, "Bricco Boschis" 2018Just as Burgundy lovers forever debate the nuances of Vosne-Romanée versus, say, Gevrey-Chambertin, Barolo enthusiasts of today discuss structural & aromatic distinctions found in each of Barolo's unique subzones. Roccheviberti produces this Barolo from a distinct vineyard site, or "Cru", within the Castiglione Falletto commune. Bricco Boschis has more clay which results in a darker fruited, and more structured wine. This heralded site brings together a perfect harmony, creating a wine of great balance & deep complexity207

FEATURED BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO

Sesta di Sopra, 2016Only 400 cases of this one of a kind wine are produced every year. Enrica and Ettore Bandirola planted grape vines in the late 1970's at their vacation home in Montalcino, however, didn't decide to make the wine until their first vintage in 1999. The result of having a small estate, mature vines, and time to pamper the land is a stunning expression of Sangiovese that is dense, layered, and of exceptional quality.223

Villa Calcinaia "Casarsa", 2015Villa Calcinaia is an estate continually operated by the Conti Capponi since 1524. Truly a stalwart of Greve in Chianti, the family makes many expressions of their vines including Chianti, Mammolo, Vin Santo, etc. But we aren't here for those. We are here for Merlot. Pure, unadulterated, rich, and decadent Tuscan Merlot. Grown on a single vineyard site originally planted in 1967 and then aged in French oak barrels, this wine provides power, finesse, and structure sip after sip.131

Etna Rosso, Girolamo Russo, "San Lorenzo", 2016Etna is unlike any other wine producing region in the world. Most notoriously known as the home of Europe's highest active volcano Mount Etna, one would not consider this to be an ideal place to grow grapes--Dangerously steep rocky soils, unpredictable weather, the threat of volcanic eruption at any point? Very few are up for the challenge of making wine under such extreme circumstances. The work of these daring vintners with the region's indigenous Nerello Mascalese grape result in wines like "'San Lorenzo": energetic fruit, smoky earth, with an elegant structure, making Etna Rosso the next big thing for Burgundy & Piedmont lovers...151

FEATURED RIOJA RESERVA

Remelluri, 2014The history of this stalwart of Rioja is a fascinating mix of forward thinking & honoring a centuries-long legacy. The first reports of winemaking on Remelluri land dates back to the 1300s, when Hieronymite monks tended the vineyards. The site was later abandoned & sat that way for hundreds of years until the Rodríguez family purchased the ancient land. While the other wineries of Rioja were buying wines & blending them to create a house style, the Rodríguez family became the first to champion a new Rioja that focused on the unique terroir of individual vineyards. Traditional practices are still upheld to this day. Grapes are still hand-harvested & ancient artifacts found around the vineyards have been restored. Cheers to that!109

Luca was founded in 1999 by Dr. Laura Catena, a fourth generation vintner, who joined her father's winery in 1995 after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard & earning her M.D. from Stanford. Shortly after, she founded the Catena Institute of Wine with the goal of carrying on her father, Nicolás' vision to put Argentine Malbec on the same level as the best wines in the world. Luca, named after her eldest son, was created in order to show off the greatness of Argentinean wines from rigorously farmed, high altitude, low yield vineyards.95

DESSERT WINE

FEATURED TOKAJI ASZÚ

Royal Tokaji, "Déli Fekvés - 5 Puttonyos", 2018Tokaji: A dessert wine so nuanced & impressive that Catherine the Great set up a garrison in the town of Tokaj to protect its delivery. Emperor Franz Josef sent Queen Victoria bottles religiously for her birthday. Louis XV referred to it as the "Wine of Kings". Beethoven, Peter the Great, & Thomas Jefferson preferred it to all other sweet wines. Don't you want to join this company of characters?125

FEATURED CHAMPAGNE MAGNUM

Pol Roger, "Réserve", Brut, NV"I cannot live without Champagne. In victory I deserve it; in defeat I need it." - Sir Winston Churchill There is no better way to mark the end of something truly, monstrously terrible than with a bottle of Champagne. In the mid-20th Century, the British chose to mark the end of World War II with one of the most iconic Champagne producers, Pol Roger. Sir Winston Churchill was such a fan of the house (and personal friend of co-owner Odette Pol-Roger) that his devotion eventually earned him his own eponymous cuvée, the finest ever offered by Pol Roger. We offer this bottling in magnum in celebration of the final chapter of our own recent & monstrously terrible global event. There is only one thing better than one bottle of champagne, and that is two bottles of champagne in one.444
